05 - 1/2 tsp salt
06 - 1/4 tsp black pepper

07 - 1 lb ground beef
08 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
09 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
10 - 1 tbsp taco seasoning
11 - 1/3 cup water
12 - Salt and pepper, to taste

→ Cheese Sauce & Toppings

13 - 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
14 - 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
15 - 1 cup store-bought or homemade nacho cheese sauce (optional)
16 - 1 cup cherry tomatoes, diced
17 - 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
18 - 1/2 cup pickled jalapeños, sliced
19 - 1/2 cup sour cream
20 - 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
21 - 2 green onions, sliced
22 - 1 avocado, diced (optional)

# How-To Steps:

01 - Preheat the oven to 425°F.
02 - Toss fries with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
03 - Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned (about 5–6 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
04 - Add chopped onion and garlic to the skillet; sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened.
05 - Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer 2–3 minutes until thickened. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
06 - When fries are done, transfer them to an ovenproof platter or skillet. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheeses over the fries and spoon the beef mixture on top. Drizzle with nacho cheese sauce if using.
07 - Return to the oven for 5 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
08 - Remove from oven and top with tomatoes, black olives, jalapeños, avocado (if using), green onions, cilantro, and dollops of sour cream. Serve immediately while hot.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • The seasoning blend on the fries makes them addictive even before toppings happen
  • Everything stays perfectly crispy while the cheese gets perfectly melty
  • You can prep all components during commercial breaks
02 -
  • Never add cold toppings to hot fries right before baking—the tomatoes release water and create a soggy layer
  • Sour cream goes on last after baking, or it will separate and look unappetizing
03 -
  • Don't overcrowd the baking sheet or the fries will steam instead of crisp—use two sheets if needed
  • The parchment paper saves you from scrubbing baked-on cheese off your pans
