- Sift the matcha powder into a mug to break up any clumps and ensure a smooth texture.
- Add the hot water to the sifted matcha. Whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small regular whisk until the matcha is completely dissolved and a frothy layer forms on top.
- Gently heat the almond milk in a small saucepan or microwave until steaming but not boiling. Avoid overheating to prevent separation.
- Froth the heated almond milk using a milk frother, whisk, or by pouring it into a sealed jar and shaking vigorously until foam forms.
- Pour the frothed almond milk over the prepared matcha base. Stir gently to incorporate the layers. Sweeten with maple syrup or agave if desired. Serve immediately, optionally dusted with a pinch of matcha powder.
